What Courtney Pine said about the session
Courtney Pine described a session with Mick Jagger for the Rolling Stones a couple of weeks earlier, according to Mark Jefferies’s October 6 report in the Mirror. The saxophonist was speaking in an interview for BBC Radio 3’s Private Passions.
The report also quotes a band spokesperson describing ongoing ideas and recording for possible future release.
Pine’s Private Passions appearance is scheduled for October 11. We haven’t heard the interview yet; his account of the session comes from the Mirror’s report.
What Pine’s saxophone maker says
Atlantic Saxophones says Pine recently recorded with the Stones using its Duke Tenor saxophone. The company’s artist page is undated and doesn’t name a song or album, or say when the recording took place.
The discussion on IORR
On the Rolling Stones fan forum IORR, the Mirror story has prompted discussion of the band’s studio plans. Replies point back to September posts about recording activity, before the newspaper’s report appeared. Those earlier posts don’t name their sources or provide supporting documents.
What about another Rolling Stones album?
Jagger had already spoken about writing more music in a June 30 interview with NME. He discussed the possibility of a third record, but also said some of his writing could suit other artists.
Foreign Tongues came out on July 10. The guests announced for that album aren’t confirmed for these newly reported sessions.
Pine’s account points to more recording, but leaves the destination of his contribution open. The reports don’t name a new album, give a release date or track list, or confirm a full recording lineup.
